The idea of PlymLUG was born in 2023 during a Plymouth LEGO®️ Fans team meeting with a common desire to provide a better, more fan focussed LEGO® event in the South West of England. The foundation of committee was formed with the plan to put on our own shows with the aim to raise funds for local charities close to our hearts.

We continue to have a strong relationship with our friends at Plymouth LEGO®️ Fans with the majority of our displayers and volunteers being part of a shared community.

Our logo is inspired by Smeaton’s Tower, the famed lighthouse that is a landmark on Plymouth Hoe. The logo was designed by our very own Dan Stokes and the incredible Chris from Rebellion Screen Printing.

In addition, we are proudly sponsored by Jay Gajzler from Unique Displays, founded in 2022. They are a fast growing company, who are passionate about collectibles. This translates into the quality of their products. Their aim is to produce a wide range of premium, innovative, high quality display solutions.

“Hi guys. So I’m Dan, a self certified LEGO® nerd!! Absolutely love the stuff & I’ve been collecting LEGO® for all but 40 years and have a very good collection of old and new. My favourite themes are LEGO® City and LEGO® Speed Champions. I have always built displays just for my pleasure and mental release, It wasn’t until someone said “why don’t you ever display them at any LEGO® shows?” That got me thinking?… Now after doing several shows over the past few years it brings me so much joy to be able to share my creation/passion with others and most certainly recommend to anyone to try it. The people I’ve met and the friends I’ve made along this journey will be friends for life now! The AFOL LEGO® community sure is a wonderful place to be part of.”

"I remember playing with my brothers

LEGO® as a child, what I remember from back then is just 'bricks' nothing like the sets that can be bought today. As I grew older Lego was left behind with my other childhood toys.

About 12 years ago I met my husband, he was still playing with his toys and had amazing happy memories that he relived through his first sets. When we started dating I'd get him little LEGO® gifts along the way. When our son was born, it reignited that child within and caused us both to want to share a part of our childhood with our son. LEGO® was the medium within which we did this, over the last 7 years our passion for this small brick has grown, as has our collection. A couple of years ago we took the leap to display some of our creations and caught the bug for creating more. I don't have a favourite theme, I'm eclectic in my set purchases and my husband likes star wars and to build from scratch. Our home is decorated with various types of LEGO® sets probably too many, and we love the excitement and smiles LEGO® brings to people. We love nothing more than chatting about it to other enthusiastic adults and aspiring children. Even non LEGO® Fans can be impressed by the structures creating from a small rectangular brick.

Look forward to chatting to you all in the future and watching your imagination grow! "

“My love of LEGO®️ started in childhood with old space and pirate sets. Although I grew out of it as a teenager, I re-discovered my love of little plastic bricks a few years ago when my wife got me the VW T1 campervan set as a present and have not looked back since. I have since passed on this affliction to my children and enjoy spending hours both making and watching them build some amazing creations. I find building and creating sets incredibly rewarding and therapeutic and have really enjoyed the challenge of trying to create educational builds to combine my passion of LEGO®️and my career as a doctor. I discovered the PlymLUG group last year after trying to branch out and meet people in the community and was massively impressed by the first show in Okehampton, so much so that I dared to display for the first time a few months later in Plymouth and subsequently joined the committee.”

“Hi there, I had been collecting the odd LEGO® set here and there for about 7 years - nothing serious and then the pandemic happened and LEGO® became a full time hobby. In late 2020 I came across a LEGO® User Group (LUG) based in Bristol as it was the nearest to Devon. And they encouraged me to display my creations at shows they organised.

Then in 2021 I discovered Plymouth LEGO® Fans on Facebook and through them I have helped create a Devon based LUG called PlymLUG.

Personally my favourite theme is CITY as I am building a large city in my garage called STUDVILLE BAY - you can find it on FACEBOOK.

I like upscaling some official LEGO® sets or MODing them by putting my own twist in the interior. I also have a few MOC’s of my own including an International Space Station, Football Stadium & Skyscraper.

The beauty of LEGO® is that the possibilities are endless…..”

“As a child I greatly enjoyed LEGO®️, it allowed me to explore my creativity through building.

During Covid, LEGO®️ released the International Space Station (ISS) which once again sparked my imagination. Over the last 4 years my collection has greatly expanded, the themes I collect are:

Space, Cars, Christmas & LEGO®️ shops. I also have a number of the sets in display cases and/or light/sound kits, the light and sound kits bring the LEGO®️ sets to the next level.

You do not need to spend a fortune or buy the biggest models, just as long as your creativity & imagination can play in a relaxing & fun way, that is all that matters.”

“In 2018 I started to collect LEGO® after seeing my Dad sorting out his old loose pieces and I’ve been hooked ever since. In the time since then it’s become a hobby and a passion of mine. LEGO® Star Wars is my favourite theme as I collected hundreds of Clone troopers to build the Grand army of the republic and I’ve built several large scale MOCs to showcase my love for clones. Furthermore I’ve also turned the passion of LEGO® into a small business called MJGBRICKS by becoming a LEGO® Trader and attending LEGO® shows all over the south west.”

Like many kids growing up in the 90's, I owned a selection of LEGO® sets ranging between the Past, Present and Future themes with the Space sets of the era being my favourite (LEGO® Adventure a close second).

While I was born during the release of Futuron and the bulk of my LEGO® birthday and Christmas presents coming from the UFO theme some ten years later, my interest in LEGO® Space themes started sometime after 93. Specifically by those old Lego catalogues showcasing the rivalry between Ice Planet/Space Police 2 and Spyrius.

Unfortunately by the time I had convinced Mum and Dad that these were the types of LEGO® sets that should feature on the old Christmas wish list, they were out of production.

So while I technically grew up with the UFO theme and a fair few Red Coat pirate sets, I always came back to the overly thumbed pages of the early 90's catalogues.

As a child, I had some of the Fabuland sets, and as I grew older, I had a couple of small LEGO® Technic sets. My brother had a few of the larger and more complicated LEGO® Technic sets, and much as I was jealous, I never really bothered. Instead, I moved towards plastic model kits. Life happened, and work started, and toys fell by the wayside. That was until 2017, when I met some new folks who had a couple of new large-scale models and would talk about the hours spent building these sets. The thought of LEGO® sprang forth! Roll on into 2022, when scrolling through eBay one day, I saw the LEGO® Technic Mack Anthem truck. I went on to find the website Rebrickable and MOC and MOD designs for sets. I fully motorised the Mack and trailer. Then went looking for more. I found the Creator Mini, built that and got the idea to make Red, White, and Blue ones to mimic the original Italian Job Movie. Finding certain models within various ranges I decided I wasn’t sticking to just one theme (probably my biggest mistake!) My spare room, come home office, was designated my LEGO® room also. Shelves are now filled with my first street in the city, Technic sets and my Speed Champion sets. After visiting Plymouth Brickfest in 2023, I met Dan and a couple of the others and joined the Plymouth Lego fans group and subsequently displayed at Plympton Bricktacular and then the group's 2nd show in Bude, where I displayed my Fairground. To say I have the LEGO® bug would be selling me short. Oh, did I forget to mention I am also building as many cars from the Fast and Furious franchise on the Speed Champion scale, building on Dom’s Charger and Brian’s Skyline? I have been building others' designs and have my own designs too!
